COMMON GROUND ALLIANCE
INTRODUCES 811 LOGO AND TAGLINE

The Common Ground Alliance (CGA)a member-driven organization dedicated to the promotion of underground damage prevention, recently unveiled a national 811 logo and tagline during their annual meeting March 14, 2006. This logo and tagline will serve as the universal identifier for 811, the national call-before-you-dig number.

The CGA began working toward the development of a national awareness campaign for 811 following the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) designation of 811 in 2005. In early 2006, the Common Ground Alliance hired RBMM, a division of the Richards Group to develop the logo and tagline. A dedicated task team of 15 CGA volunteers representing various stakeholder groups worked with RBMM throughout the development process, and on February 21, 2006, the CGA Board of Directors approved the logo and tagline that will become the mark for 811 throughout the United States.

"This is the first phase in an effort to develop a national awareness campaign and rollout strategy for 811," stated Bob Kipp, CGA President, "it gives the underground damage prevention community a preview of the look and feel for the entire campaign."

CGA's committees are working together to promote the successful rollout and implementation of 811. The Educational Programs and Membership Marketing Committee, comprised of more than 50 volunteers from various stakeholder groups, was tasked with developing a national awareness campaign. In addition, the One Call Systems International Committee is focusing on issues affecting the implementation of 811. Together; these two committees of more than 100 strong are working diligently on all aspects related to 811.

"We are in the process of starting our search for a Contractor to develop the remaining elements of the national campaign," said Tom Shimon, Executive Director, Kansas One Call and co-chair of the 811 Task Team. The CGA anticipates the Contractor will be in place by mid-June of this year. "We understand the implementation deadline is not until April 2007; our primary focus is to have elements of the campaign completed by the fourth quarter of this year," added Shimon.

Currently, www.Call811.com is the primary website for information relating directly to the 811 national awareness campaign. "The web site allows users to request access to download the logo and tagline artwork," stated Dan Meiners, USA Executive Director, and 811 Task Team co-chair. This website will also host additional information such as Frequently Asked Questions, background information and PowerPoint presentations.

The CGA anticipates that the rollout of the 811 national awareness campaign will take place during the first quarter of 2007. This introduction of the 811 logo and tagline is intended to provide stakeholders with a feel for how the campaign will evolve as we move into the next phase of this project.
